There are many ways to advertise for a website, but have you ever tried or heard of advertising on a second website to promote the target website?
Thoughts.com was using this way to promote itself.
Firstly, she launched a WordPress blog called Okay Blog (blocked by GFW), which just like a normal WordPress blog, there were Recent Blog Posts, Updated Blogs, Most Popular Blogs, and so on.
Secondly, the blog was named Free Blog Hosting, and was said that you can create a new blog and join in the fun.
Thirdly, thoughts.com advertised for Okay Blog, the reader referred from Ads might sign up a new account:
Below the username column, there was a sentence said “Your blog will be displayed at thoughts.com/username”, but the URL you saw on Okay Blog was just like “username.okayblog.net”.
Once sign up, you would be redirected to thoughts.com:
Thoughts.com would get a new user in this way. And when you tried to sign in the Okay Blog, there would be an error, even though the cookies were enabled.
This meant that you had no way to create a new blog at Okay Blog, but you could only create a blog on thoughts.com. Since Okay Blog was owned by thoughts.com, and it did said that Your blog will be displayed at thoughts.com, this promotion way may be not considered as cheat, but just a link bait.
